At the Zoo

Last week was Austin's first trip to the zoo. I don't think he saw one animal and he slept for most of the time, but the rest of us enjoyed it!

It was an overcast day for most of the day, which was actually perfect because it meant that most of the animals were out and about. Here are the sea lions.

After the zoo we all went over to Toren's parent's house for dinner and relaxing. Here, Austin and I are swinging with cousin Brody and Grandma. These little guys love swinging.

And Baxter, though he didn't go to the zoo, wore himself out completely chasing the badmitton birdies and getting in the way of some serious badmitton games.

Independence Day

Our fourth of July was pretty low-key this year, but I kind of like it that way. I love just hanging out with family, eating (of course), and watching the fireworks. This year we were blessed to have all of Toren's family (minus his brother Blair who is on a mission) in town. This meant that little Austin got to see his two cousins for the first time (pictures to come).

52-Week Project

It's been ages since I did any digital scrapbooking. And now, since I have a cute little baby to take pictures of, is the time to do it! I decided to make Austin a My First Year scrapbook. What I plan to do is create a scrapbook page for each week of his life during the first year. After that I'll probably just do a scrapbook that highlights big events. As you could probably guess, I'm a little behind on my project already. I should have at least 5 done (he's 5 weeks old today!!) and I only have 2. Oh well. As with everything else in my life, I'll catch up eventually.

The View From The Top

Every once in a while Austin has one of those moods where he just wants to be held. He's not hungry, dirty or tired. He just wants someone to hold him....or else! Usually he feels this way at the exact time I start making dinner, doing laundry, or any other chore. So, I've fallen in love with two solutions to this problem: the Peanut Shell and the Baby Bjorn.

The Peanut Shell (thanks Maren!) is perfect for when Austin wants to be held and is also a little tired. It puts him out almost immediately.

Usually, though, Austin would rather be upright and looking around. Thank you Baby Bjorn (and Maren..again!). (I didn't realize how incredibly tired I looked this day until I saw this picture...wow!)

Plus, who could resist carrying a baby this way when this is the view from the top?

Jelousy or Brotherly Love?

As many of you know, Baxter has been our little baby for over two years now. So we were very interested to see how he would react to the new little baby. It's definitely taken him a while to adjust, and I can't say that he particularly loves baby Austin, but I think he's finally realized that he's here to stay so it's best just to accept it.

Baxter just finds a way to push himself right into the action. Whether it's during a feeding or a diaper change, you can expect Bax to be right there in the middle of it all.

But then, when he thinks no one is looking, he show his true feelings. I know in a year or two Baxter will really grow to love little Austin...and all the Cheerios he drops!

Saturday Market

While my mom and Amanda were here we had to get out and do SOMETHING. So we went to Portland's Saturday Market. I'd never been before, but I'd always wanted to go. And now that I've been I can say that all the Portland weirdo's flock to the Saturday Market. We loved it!

Notice the tie-dye shirts behind us in this photo. I really wanted to get a tie-dye onesie for Austin, but I didn't. Maybe next time...

Austin missed the entire thing!
